Introducing Older Siblings to a Newborn

There's two and half years between my girls so when Emily was born she didn't have a full understanding of what it meant to be getting a little sister.  However, now the girls are four and half and almost seven so they have a firmer grasp of a baby brother coming into the picture.  Even though they are older and can better comprehend, a new baby is still life altering for any child and perhaps even greater when your little ones are older.

The girls were very active in my pregnancy asking about how I felt and what was going on with baby.  We tried to prepare them for the changes during the entire pregnancy.  During the last several weeks they started asking every day if it was the day that brother would arrive.  Jackson was born in the evening and by the time you finish skin to skin and moving into a room it was way too late for big sissy's to meet Jackson so they came to the hospital the next day.  The anticipation was so high and the girls were bursting to meet their little brother.  Our family coming together as five for the first time is by far one of the best moments in my life; precious does not begin to describe it.  I could not be more thankful that I had a Melissa Gotelli Photography there to capture these moments.   She took the most beautiful photos imaginable and she's so wonderful with little ones, always getting their best smiles and making them feel comfortable.

Madi is very quick to tell you to be quiet around her baby brother but she clearly has not gotten the memo herself!

The girls are so proud to have a little brother and they are completely in love with him.  Even though they have been wonderful I still wanted them to know that they are special.  Jackson got his big sisters some gifts to thank them for being such wonderful sissys.  Emily was quick to tell me that Jackson couldn't have got them but that I did; guess there's no fooling her!  "Jackson" picked out gifts that were perfect for big sissys like a pack and play, double strollers and baby carrier from Joovy that are so life like and the girls can't wait to take their babies on a walk while I walk Jackson in his stroller.  Brother also got Barbie Skipper Babysitters Inc. from Mattel.  All these gifts are perfect for the girls to practice their big sister skills while they play.
