Halloween Crafts & Treats

I'm a lover of all holidays and I'm always talking about how much I live for traditions.  To this day I remember traditions from my childhood and I just love creating new ones with my kids.  I hope they carry some of them on with their families.  One of our greatest traditions is making treats and enjoying them during a movie night.  Especially this time of year we love camping out in front of the tv and enjoying food and family.

A "charcuterie" board always make food that much more fun so I've been having fun creating different Halloween boards.  My first Halloween Treat Board consisted of mandarin pumpkins, candy corn & pumpkins, Halloween Oreo's, Moose Track Ice Cream, and Spooky Spider Popcorn.

Making the popcorn couldn't be any easier.  You can pop popcorn or you can do what I did and just buy Skinny Pop and then melt orange chocolate and drizzle on top.  I added Halloween sprinkles and set in the fridge for an hour.  In the meantime I made the spider plate for the popcorn which consists of cutting black pipe cleaners to the desired length and hot glueing to the bottom of a black paper plate.  Then 3/4 of the way down the pipe cleaner you bend at a 45 degree angle.  Lastly, hot glue googly eyes to the top of the plate.

To make the mandarin pumpkins you peel a mandarin and then slice a very small piece of celery and insert in the top.  Plain ice cream isn't nearly as fun as ice cream with sprinkles so sprinkles were added to the top.  I put it all together on a board and let the fun begin!

Easter Bunny Brunch

There isn't a holiday that goes by that I don't do a special breakfast.  The surprise element is long gone but there isn't any less excitement from the girls and now Jack wants in on the fun.  I keep everything simple and affordable so it doesn't take a lot of time or money. I use many things over and over in order to accomplish that.  Most of the time I use our colorful RePlay tableware but I had these supplies left over from a party so I decided to use them.  I made the garland years ago from paint sample cards and the only other decor was some fresh tulips and our letter board.

Easy & Sweet Valentine's Day Gifts

I try to find new class Valentine's gifts each year for my girls and I also try to avoid junk since they get plenty of it on this holiday.  This year I gave the girls a few options and they both chose Slap Bracelets.  When I picked up the girls from school several of their classmates had them on and the girls said they were such a hit.  I also found it was a great option for boys and girls.  So many of the cute ideas were only appropriate for one gender.  I found them online in bulk and so it was really cheap.  I found the printable online, printed and cut them out.  Lastly, I used a little craft tape to attach the gift tag to the bracelets.

I've included a couple more ideas that I used in our Valentine's Week of Love.  If you've been around here for awhile you know I've done this activity with my mom since I was a very young girl.  We've continued the tradition my whole life and were so excited to pass on the tradition to my kids.  This year was so crazy that I didn't get to photograph a few of the gifts but here is a small sample:

How to Make Back to School Simple but Exciting

My girls are still at the age where back to school is lots of fun.  I dread the day they dread going back to school.  Although my girls are very excited about school I have mixed feelings.  I'm excited to have them out of the house but I'm not looking forward to having to be up and at of the house by 7:45 every morning.  It's not that I ever sleep in but it's just a lot to get four people (self included) all ready by that time.  I also wish I lived in a world where Summer lasted all year round.  I love the warm weather, the play dates, the trips and all that Summer brings (minus the darn mosquito's).

So I have one hand tightly holding onto Summer and the other busily preparing for Back to School.  I saw a meme that other day that said there are 5 seasons in a year: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and Back to School.  It made me laugh and it's so true.  There is so much hype around back to school and so much to check off the to-do list.  There are subscriptions for just about everything now a days so why can't there be a biannual subscription for school supplies.  Delivery would be in August and January to replenish all that has broken, gotten lost, etc.  I'm going off on a tangent but maybe this is something I need to invent.  Because it's a pain to online shop and run to several stores to get everything you need for your kids to be ready to go.

Until I invent a one stop shop for Back to School shopping you are left with the current situation.  Since that's not the easiest and most convenient I've tried to make it much simpler for you and round up everything I think your children need and what is the best (all while staying affordable because that's my mantra).

Cute and Affordable End of the Year Gift Ideas

How is it possible that we only have a few more weeks of school?  Where in the world did the year go?!?!  Since the end of the year is approaching very quickly I'm putting together our gifts for teachers, aides, buddies and other staff members.  I am so appreciative of how hard school staff works to take care of our little ones and I think they deserve a small token to show how thankful we are.

You can find hundreds of adorable gift ideas on Pinterest and I've used several of them but then I started thinking about what teachers and staff would really like.  Is a flower really cute with an adorable gift tag about growth?  Yes, but is it something a teacher really needs? NO!  Let's be real teachers want gift cards for something useful.  I think you literally can't go wrong with a Target gift card because who can't find something at Target???  I also think restaurant gift cards, Starbucks, movies, etc. are pretty good as well.

Here are what my girls are giving this year:

The Excitement of Picking Out Your First American Girl

When Emily was young my mom and I decided that for her fifth birthday we would take her to American Girl to get her first doll.  We had the best time on her birthday trip we decided it would be a tradition and that one day we would do the same for Madi.  Madi is approaching her fifth birthday and our only free weekend was in April about a month before her actual birthday.  Both grandmas and Madi and I traveled down to LA for one night and had the best time celebrating our sassy girl.

Sharing Our Sweet & Fun Valentine's Day Traditions

Valentine's Traditions

If you know me you know I live for traditions and all holidays.  I will seize any excuse to decorate, buy cute matching outfits and celebrate.  I'm sharing our traditions for the season of love however time is flying so I'm not sure how it's almost the end of February.  I feel like Valentine's Day was just yesterday.

Valentine's Day Crafts

Valentine's Day Crafts

Since I was a little girl my mom and I have celebrated Valentine's with 14 Days of Love.  We would exchange small gifts in little mailboxes leading up to Valentine's Day.  We've continued that tradition with the girls and it makes my heart oh so happy.  I do buy a few gifts but I also try to make something personal from the girls to my mom to make it extra special.  Since we've been doing this for years and years it can be hard to come up with new ideas that I haven't used before.  I wanted to share these ideas with you because they are sweet and very simple to do.  I had all the supplies at home minus the plate so hopefully you do as well.

Gifts for Girls

My girls are 4 and 7 so these gifts ideas are geared for those ages but I think they would be great presents for any little girl ages 3 to 10.  I love giving experience gifts but let's be real there has to be a few things that a kid can open up and get really excited about.  These items are sure to put a huge smile on their faces.  I can just hear the squeals now when they open these gifts on Christmas morning.

Barbie Dream House - This is a great sister gift.  When giving larger gifts I suggest giving them as a group gift which makes your budget stretch farther.
Barbie Ultimate Kitchen - I love giving gifts that go together and build a larger theme or gift.  So this goes with the Dream House.
Barbie Fashionistas - Also to go with the Dream House & Kitchen.
Polly Pocket Sweet Treat Compact - Mini gifts are huge right now amongst my girls and their friends.
Lil Gleemerz - Responds to light and touch with 100 responses.  Named one of Amazon's Top 100 Toys of 2018.

Luckily all of these items are available on Amazon Prime so they will arrive just in time for Santa's delivery.

Introducing Older Siblings to a Newborn

There's two and half years between my girls so when Emily was born she didn't have a full understanding of what it meant to be getting a little sister.  However, now the girls are four and half and almost seven so they have a firmer grasp of a baby brother coming into the picture.  Even though they are older and can better comprehend, a new baby is still life altering for any child and perhaps even greater when your little ones are older.

Girl's Craft Night- AR Workshop

Can you think of a better way to spend a night than with girlfriends and DIY projects (don't forget a little wine was involved too)?  I was so excited when I learned that AR Workshop was coming to Fresno and all that it had to offer.  Recently the Fresno Fab Females headed over for a craft night and I fell in love immediately.  The space and atmosphere were so cute; I could take one of everything home with me.  Plus the two owners are the sweetest and cutest cousins which is just the icing on the cake.

Ahead of time everyone signs up online for a class and picks their project.  I was pleasantly surprised that each person in a group could pick a different project so everyone gets exactly what they want.  I picked out a growth chart board for Jackson's nursery.  When you arrive your space is all set up for you and two instructors were on hand to walk us through every step.  I was so impressed with how everything was ran and how great the class was.  At the end of the night every project looked professional and it was fool proof.  I could go back weekly to work on a new project.  I've had so many people ask me about AR Workshop and I'm planning to head back very soon with more friends.  I'm also super excited to share Jackson's growth chart in his nursery with you; stay tuned.
